Test your aim with clay targets – ideal for groups!

Test your aim on our outdoor Laser Clay Shooting course near the scenic Waiau River. This safe and fun activity is suitable for all skill levels, with training provided by our experienced experts.

Your laser clay shooting experience using decommissioned shot guns takes approximately 45 minutes, making this an affordable and time-efficient option for anyone aged 10 years and over, and the activity can also be combined with our other attractions for a full day of fun. It’s a great challenge for groups of any size: can you shoot down the most targets to beat the competition?

What you need to know

Our Laser Clay Shooting experience takes approximately 45 minutes.
A minimum age of 10 years applies
We supply all equipment including decommissioned shotguns, plastic clays and clay thrower. Please note our laser clay site is outdoors, so please dress warmly and bring a jacket if the weather is cooler.
Our onsite snack bar supplies drinks, ice creams, snacks, and light meals
Our health & safety practices have been assessed by independent outdoor safety experts and we are AdventureMark Safety Certified.
Please note a zero alcohol limit applies for this activity, and participants may be breath-tested.
Hanmer Springs Attractions reserves the right to refuse participation should any person be affected by medication, or any other substance such that they may be a risk to themselves or others.

Getting here

You’ll find us at 839 Hanmer Springs Road, just past the turnoff towards Hanmer Springs from State Highway 7 and just before the Waiau Ferry Bridge. There’s a large carpark with plenty of parking for cars, campervans, and coaches.

For your convenience, we offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off from most accommodation providers in Hanmer Springs on request. Please contact our reservations team at least 24 hours prior to your booking date to organise this service.

Our buggy guide Cieran was awesome! Quad bike experience well worth it. And all the staff are knowledgeable and extremely experienced, safety is at the forefront, but still able to have a really good time!

Booked the quad bike experience and it was really awesome. Health and safety is top priority but did not take away the fun. I had a really great adventure and I'm glad I finally did it.

Long story: I'd always wanted to do quad biking in NZ. But since I lived in Chch, I kept procrastinating. Then my family came to visit in 2023. At first, my dad and uncle didn't want to do the experience. That meant that my niece (my cousin's child) and my grandmother had people to take care of them.

But apparently my dad did want to do it, and it was my mom who decided that he didn't want. So I gave my place to my dad and then I told my uncle I'll take care of my niece, and bought him a ticket too. I thought it's okay, Hanmer's only 2.5 hours away from chch.

I ended up at the animal farm with my grandma and my niece which was fun. My family really enjoyed that experience and I really wanted to do it. My dad especially, had a great time.

Fast forward to 8 months after the trip, I found myself packing up and moving back to Singapore. And a few months later (December 2024), my dad passed away.

Most of my life is still in NZ, including my husband (he's moving to sg soon), so I went back and we decided to make Hanmer a trip with my in laws. And top on the list was the quad biking experience.

I'm so glad to get to see what my dad saw during his last days, and now being able to have this shared experience with my husband and father in law. Thank you Hanmer Springs Attractions.

Really enjoyed the rides and scenic views. Though a bit of travel from Christchurch it was worth it. Absolutely loved the jet boat ride.
