Christchurch Heritage Week 2014 (17 – 27 October) is an opportunity to connect with our past, appreciate the present, and ponder the future. Welcome Aboard’s attractions are ideally relevant to celebrating Christchurch’s heritage. Our historic city trams and Botanic Gardens tour will be to the fore on Sunday 19 October, dubbed ‘A day of family fun’.
And fun it will be with free Christchurch Tram rides and Botanic Gardens Caterpillar tours between 11 am and 3 pm. Three Outwits (wacky conductors) plan to board the trams at the Museum stop from 11 am, and will rotate between all three trams until 3 pm.
The trams will be the ideal heritage tour connection between the Botanic Gardens Kids Zone and the New Regent Street Retro Zone.
Joe Bennett, the popular Wednesday Press columnist, will be storytelling on a selected tram. Storytelling will be during two round trips between Cathedral Junction and Canterbury Museum. Passengers can join the storytelling tram at Cathedral Junction. Bookings must be made through Christchurch City Libraries (sponsors of the event) for either of the storytelling tram rides departing Cathedral Junction at 12.54 pm and 1.30 pm.
‘Tales on the Caterpillar’, aimed at four to six year olds, will depart from outside the i-SITE information centre (close to the Peacock Fountain) at 11 am and 11.45 am. Bookings can be made through Christchurch City Libraries (phone 941 7923), as numbers are strictly limited.
Throughout Heritage Week, present a Heritage Week voucher (found on page 8 of the official Beca programme) to receive generous discounts at Welcome Aboard’s Gondola Shop at the Top, Punting on the Avon or Botanic Gardens Caterpillar Tour.
