A river cruise by canoe, less ruffled than a jet boat ride and not as rollicking or drenching as a white water raft dash, is the newest tourist activity available at Hanmer Springs Attractions (formerly Thrillseekers Adventures) near Hanmer Springs.
Hanmer Springs Canoes offers a six-hour self-propelled downstream canoe trip on the famed North Canterbury Waiau River, and promises to satisfy those wishing for a gentler ride over the same course as the more adventurous options.
One is tempted to think of the canoe trip as reminiscent of writer Kenneth Grahame’s famed messing about in boats quote in his The Wind in the Willows.
In fact this canoeing activity is ideally suited for families.
Our inflatable canoes are wide and exceptionally stable. Although participants paddle their own canoes, they will not be alone. A qualified guide will accompany every river trip, and customers will return upstream to the starting point near the historic Ferry Bridge by jetboat.
